El patrimonio cultural representa la identidad, la memoria colectiva y los valores de una sociedad, preservando un legado histórico que fortalece el sentido de pertenencia y permite comprender las raíces sociales. Su protección garantiza que futuras generaciones puedan valorarlo, lo que subraya la necesidad de integrarlo en procesos educativos para formar ciudadanos críticos y responsables. El concepto de patrimonio ha evolucionado desde sus orígenes en el derecho romano hasta ser reconocido como pilar fundamental de la identidad cultural. Este análisis, apoyado en contribuciones de diversos autores y organizaciones, explora los períodos históricos que han moldeado su conceptualización, así como los criterios para evaluar su impacto. Además, enfatiza el rol de la educación patrimonial como herramienta clave para promover el compromiso social con su preservación, abordando también los desafíos actuales en su implementación pedagógica y su perspectiva integral sobre cómo la educación en patrimonio puede impulsar el desarrollo sociocultural, vinculando pasado, presente y futuro mediante un enfoque crítico y participativo. Por lo que la presente revisión tiene como objetivo analizar la literatura existente sobre la educación patrimonial y su impacto en la valorización del patrimonio cultural.
Cultural heritage represents the identity, collective memory and values of a society, preserving a historical legacy that strengthens the sense of belonging and provides an understanding of social roots. Its protection guarantees that future generations will be able to value it, which underscores the need to integrate it into educational processes in order to form critical and responsible citizens. The concept of heritage has evolved from its origins in Roman law to its recognition as a fundamental pillar of cultural identity. This analysis, supported by contributions from various authors and organizations, explores the historical periods that have shaped its conceptualization, as well as the criteria for evaluating its impact. It also emphasizes the role of heritage education as a key tool to promote social commitment to its preservation, addressing the current challenges in its pedagogical implementation and its integral perspective on how heritage education can promote socio-cultural development, linking past, present and future through a critical and participatory approach. Therefore, the present review aims to analyze the existing literature on heritage education and its impact on the valorization of cultural heritage.
