The main challenge currently facing Ecuadorian higher education is the integration of its substantive functions, to fulfill its social responsibility by contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the context where they are circumscribed. In this sense, the current legislation establishes that higher education institutions must have a model of connection with society that ensures the integration of its three missionary pillars: teaching, research and links with society; for knowledge management based on their domains, research lines, academic offer and community needs at the local, national and regional levels; responding to the principle of relevance. Thus, projects linked to society are essential to achieve this goal, since they allow the members of the different university groups to strengthen their service to the community, fostering a positive impact on social, economic and environmental factors. The present work has as objective to investigate the relation of the connection with the society from the projects formulated at institutional level with those outlined in the curricular redesigns of the careers of the UNESUM, starting from the base of the approach of the local development
