Introducción: La Publicación Periódica La Abeja (1856) de Trinidad constituyó la primera publicación impresa seriada de esa localidad que priorizó en sus páginas el reflejo del creciente movimiento cultural y literario de la tercera villa fundacional cubana. Objetivo: por el interés que reviste La Abeja, el presente artículo caracteriza, desde una perspectiva cualitativa, los rasgos que la tipifican (infraestructura, estructura y
supraestructura), en interdependencia con esos mismos niveles dentro del Sistema Social del período de análisis. Para dar cumplimiento al objetivo, se emplean métodos como el histórico-lógico y la investigación documental o bibliográfica; y se utilizan técnicas como la entrevista semiestructurada. Como resultado fundamental se determina el uso de imprenta de tecnología artesanal, la rudimentaria organización del trabajo dentro del medio en la primera etapa, y el predominio de contenidos de temas culturales, siempre dirigidos a la clase media y alta de la sociedad trinitaria. Conclusiones: la investigación contribuye a la historia de una ciudad colonial con más de 505 años de fundada que, en el 2020, arribó a los 200 años de inaugurar el periodismo en la región central de Cuba.
Introduction: La Abeja (1856) Periodical of Trinidad was the first serial printed publication of Trinidad which prioritized in its pages the reflection of the growing cultural and literary movement of the third Cuban foundational village. Objective: Due to the interest awakened by La Abeja, this article characterizes, from a qualitative perspective, the aspects that typify it (its infrastructure, structure and superstructure), in correlation with those same levels within the Social System of the analyzed period. In order to fulfill the objectives, methods such as the historical
logical the analysis of documents and the semi-structured interview technique were applied. The outcome of the research presents the following results: The manufacturing technology was used for the printing process of this periodical. In addition, a simple organization of the work structure was identified. Furthermore, the cultural themes were its main focus and the middle and upper classes of the local colonial society were its target audience. Conclusions: Overall, the research contributes to the history of Trinidad, a colonial city with more than 505 years since its foundation, which also celebrated in 2020, the 200th anniversary of bringing the world of journalism, for the first time, to the central region of Cuba.
