Introduction: The Helicobacter pylori was identified more than 38 years ago. Its prevalence is high in developing countries. The research´s objective was to estimate the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with gastric pathologies, from January 2017 to December 2019 at the Camilo Cienfuegos Provincial General Hospital in Sancti Spíritus. Methodology: A descriptive observational study was carried out. The population consisted of the patients over 18 years of age who were performed an upper digestive endoscopy, in addition to a gastric biopsy in the abovementioned place and time period. The data were obtained from endoscopic reports, request for biopsies and biopsy results. Furthermore, variables such as prevalence of Helicobacter pylori, location of the biopsy and histological type were used. Results: The antrum was the predominant topography since the 52.2% which represented 76 patients had gastric polyps and 32.8% of them were positive to Helicobacter pylori. The 21.7% of the sample had atrophic gastritis, the 49.2% of it was positive to the bacteria. Conclusions: Infection was identified in the 58.3% of the biopsies with intestinal metaplasia and the 5.2% was positive to cancer. Intestinal metaplasia was the most prevalent condition associated with Helicobacter pylori.
