Introduction: This article analyzes creative learning as an answer to the necessity of developing new learning forms that enhance the motivation, originality and the development of the cognitive independence during the process of teachinglearning of Mathematics. Its objective is to characterize the creative learning approach as an alternative for the continuous improvement of the process of teaching-learning of Mathematics. Methods: the historical-logical and the analysissynthesis methods were used from the theoretical level; additionally, in-depth sessions, interviews and the systematizing of the experiences of the professors for the search of information about the carried out characterization were implemented. Results: a characterization that includes the definition of the term creative learning in the process of teaching-learning of Mathematics was the main result as well as the specification of the characteristics and demands of this learning style. Conclusions: The carried out characterization allowed to enrich the approaches included initially by the authors of the article and it allowed the professors to stimulate both the creative learning achievement and its valuation by the professors that teach this subject in the university where the research was conducted.
