The development of reading comprehension skills in 8th grade students

Abstract

The present investigation is related with the developmento of Reading comprehention skill in the English Language in Junior High School students constitutes one of the main objectives of the English subject in this level. It responds to general objective of the program for the comprehensive formation of the future teachers of English in their role to contribute to the formation of the new generation for the progress of the Cuban socialist project. The Major Paper is oriented to the elaboration of teaching activities to contribute to the treatment and development of the reading comprehension skills in the English language in the students from Junior High School. The communicative approach as the general method and some research methods were applied in the research process to confirm the real state of development of the skill, so as to validate the proposed teaching activities. The scientific novelty of the Major Paper is reflected on the characteristics of the proposed teaching activities which vary according to the diagnosis of the sample to contribute to favour the students‘ preparation to read in English with the needed skill.

Cette recherche porte sur le développement de la compétence de compréhension écrite en anglais chez les élèves du secondaire, l'un des objectifs principaux de la discipline de l'anglais à ce niveau. Elle s'inscrit dans l'objectif général du programme de formation intégrale des futurs professeurs d'anglais, qui jouent un rôle clé dans la formation de la nouvelle génération pour le progrès du projet socialiste cubain. Ce mémoire est axé sur l'élaboration d'activités pédagogiques visant à contribuer au traitement et au développement des compétences de compréhension écrite en anglais chez les élèves du secondaire. Une approche communicative, en tant que méthode générale, ainsi que certaines méthodes de recherche, ont été appliquées au cours de l'étude pour confirmer l'état réel du développement de cette compétence, afin de valider les activités pédagogiques proposées. La nouveauté scientifique de ce mémoire réside dans les caractéristiques des activités pédagogiques proposées, qui varient en fonction du diagnostic de l'échantillon, afin de favoriser la préparation des élèves à lire en anglais avec les compétences nécessaires.
