Abstract
Introduction: Permaculture, based on its ethical and design principles, contributes to local development on a sustainable basis, in terms of space utilization and food production. Objective: To present the results of a permaculture system that reflects its main methods and achievements in the use of space and local resources. Methods: A predominantly quantitative, explanatory research strategy was followed, applying different theoretical and empirical methods such as analysis and synthesis, induction-deduction, historical-logical, transition from the abstract to the concrete, scientific observation, survey, interview, experiment, and among the mathematical and/or statistical methods, descriptive statistics. Results: The results demonstrate that permaculture systems can create healthy and economic lifestyles, as they favor food production, saving and maximum use of locally available resources and environmental protection. Conclusions: Adopting the principles of permaculture as a philosophy of life promotes environmental protection, the use of local resources, and the implementation of contextually appropriate initiatives and technologies.
