Abstract
The aging of the population, which exceeds 100 million people over 60 years of age per year, poses significant challenges in health, economy and public policies, especially in district #37 of the Trinidad municipality. This phenomenon, driven by increased life expectancy and a decline in the birth rate, requires understanding the social vulnerabilities faced by older adults. The research, carried out using qualitative techniques such as observation and in-depth interviews, revealed that the housing conditions of older adults vary considerably, from adequate structures to deteriorated houses with leaks and dirt floors, which aggravates their vulnerability. The Ministry of Labor and Social Security classifies these individuals according to their housing situation, income, health status and family support, identifying those who live alone or dependent on insufficient pensions as most vulnerable. Economic vulnerability is a predominant aspect, since many cannot cover their basic needs. To address these problems, programs such as grandparents' homes and the Family Food Service (SAF) have been implemented, which offer medical care and guaranteed food. Social workers are essential in this context, using scientific and social tools to identify and support older adults, thus contributing to improving their living conditions and well-being
