Abstract

The present research aims to diagnose the psychological preparation of Taekwondo athletes in the 13-15 (M) category at the EIDE Lino Salabarría Pupo in the province of Sancti Spíritus. An intentional sample of 6 athletes, constituting the entire team, was taken. To address the scientific problem and achieve the objective, theoretical methods such as analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, and historical-logical were used, in addition to empirical methods such as document review, semi-structured interview, and a group of psychological tests widely applied and validated in sports psychology, including the anxiety as trait and state test, attitude towards competition test, and the Loehr's psychological performance inventory test. The results reveal that the greatest difficulties are located in variables related to emotional control, attentional control, self-confidence, and the underestimation of opponents' strength. For each case, guidance aimed at improvement was offered, as these factors are considered to have affected the achievement of high sports results. Therefore, it is concluded that the diagnosis of the selected sample allowed characterizing the current state of it and determining the variables that may be hindering the achievement of high sports results. The results of the research are of great value and importance as they provide psychological tools for the work of coaches not only for the rest of the Taekwondo categories but also applicable to all combat sports.
