Abstract
Early sport initiation is a pivotal stage in children's physical and emotional development, influencing their future sport participation. However, the declining child population observed in Cuba, particularly in the province and city of Sancti Spíritus, poses a significant challenge for educators in this field. This study explores the perceptions of 17 sports teachers affiliated with the “Julio Antonio Mella” Sports Complex in this city regarding this issue, its consequences, and potential solutions, through a literature review and surveys. The findings suggest that, while the decrease in student numbers impacts the continuity of sports education, there is a potential for innovation in teaching methodologies that can adapt to this new reality.
