El artículo presenta un estudio descriptivo sobre el impacto sociocultural que tuvo la desactivación del central azucarero “Remberto Abad Alemán” en la comunidad de Guayos. Esta investigación se realizó atendiendo a los diferentes criterios y valoraciones de antiguos trabajadores, dirigentes de la cultura en el poblado y vecinos del asentamiento. Se partió de la situación problémica que consistió en la desactivación de esta industria, lo cual permitió establecer el punto de partida en el tema. Se utilizó la metodología cualitativa; específicamente, el método etnográfico y técnicas como la entrevista, el cuestionario y el análisis de documentos. El artículo trata cómo la situación internacional de ese periodo, influyó negativamente en el desarrollo azucarero del país. De manera particular, se alude a la historia del surgimiento del ingenio, su relación con el poblado, lo que significó para su cultura y las tendencias negativas posteriores a su desactivación. Por tanto, la desaparición de esta entidad de la industria azucarera cubana, marcó un suceso de repercusión sociocultural en Guayos; que afectó el decursar de la vida de sus pobladores.
The article presents a descriptive study about the sociocultural impact of the deactivation of the "Remberto Abad Alemán" sugar mill in the community of Guayos. This research was carried out according to the different criteria and assessments of former workers, leaders of the culture in the town and residents of the settlement. It started from the problematic situation that consisted of the deactivation of this industry, which allowed to establish the starting point in the subject. The qualitative methodology was used; specifically, the ethnographic method and techniques such as interview, questionnaire and document analysis. The article deals with how the international situation of that period negatively influenced the country's sugar development. In particular, it refers to the history of the emergence of ingenuity, its relationship with the village, what it meant for its culture and the negative tendencies subsequent to its deactivation. Therefore, the disappearance of this entity from the Cuban sugar industry, marked an event of sociocultural impact in Guayos; that affected the course of the life of its inhabitants.
